FA Cup (3rd Qual Rd)

2-1

Gilbey(45+), Smith(60)

HT 1-1

Summers(39)

This seasons FA Cup adventure ended thanks to two moments of naive defending. Howard Newton and Harry Knock missed out through injury and Frankie Sawyer was cup-tied, giving a start up front to Billy Marshall, on a perfect autumn afternoon.

Sol Pinnock was first to test home keeper Hughes with a powerful shot that the keeper parried before bringing it under control in the 6th minute. It was close to the half hour mark before the next serious goal attempt, this time the home side forcing Smith into action, conceding a corner. Another Pinnock shot produced a Terrors corner before Billy Marshall found Dan Summers in a counter attack, enabling to striker to emphatically lash the ball home past Hughes.

With a half time lead on the cards, and the referee with whistle to mouth, Tooting lost the ball. Gilby took delivery on the edge of the penalty area, and edged his way along the box unchallenged until he was ready to pick his spot with a lovely shot that curved around Smith.

---------------------------------------------

Billy Marshal forced Hughes to tip his low shot around a post soon after the break but on the hour mark, just after Jordan Cheadle had fired wide from a corner, another defensive stand-off enabled Lewis Smith to take advantage of more fine work from the impressive Bryant and net the winner with another well placed effort.

Terrors tried hard to restore parity in the remaining half hour, but only sub TJ Nkoma managed to get close with a low shot that crashed against the post and another that just evaded a post during added time.

HT 2-1

Pinnock(7), Sawyer(54), Cheadle(60p)

Heavy rain made a skating rink of the pitch, suiting the Redhill long ball game much more than the Tooting passing one - which broke down with frustrating frequency.

A spectacular early lead, courtesy of Sol Pinnock who took the ball with back to goal, span round and found the top corner on one fluid movement, was cancelled out within moments.

Fankie Sawyer tested the woodwork on 20 minutes, but Sol Pinnocks was denied his second score of the evening - knocking in the rebound, but from an off-side position.

Deep into stoppage time another pre-half time doze saw Paul Smith pressurised into punching the ball into his own net from a corner.

------------------------------------------

After a woeful start to the second half Frankie Sawyer pounced on a defensive defence error to equalise but once again within a minute the home side had scored again.

Moment later Nathan Gordon was practically mugged on the half way line, by the time the diminutive full back landed from the ‘tackle’ Redhills Route 1 had given them the lead.

Another equaliser, this time a Jordan Cheadle converted penalty after Nathan Gordon had again been upended, offered hope but, soon after David Graves had been forced to quit following another nasty tackle (at least this one was punished with a booking)  Redhill grabbed the winner through a breakaway from a Tooting corner.

 FA Trophy (Reliminary Round)

1-2

Sawyer(54)

HT 0-1

Goss(37),Haule(56)

Tooting deservedly crashed out of another cup competition after a performance in which they failed to match their opponents in every department.

With Nathan Gordon and David Graves ruled out thanks to the assaults they received at Redhill the remodelled defence, with the exception of a very promising performance by Alex Filipe on the left, never looked comfortable and it was a surprise that they made it to half time having conceded just the once.

An exquisite lob by Frankie Sawyer threw Terrors an unexpected lifeline ten minutes after the break, but moments later a dreadful defensive header by Harry Knock allowed Haule to slip in to score the simplest of winners.
