Ryman South

2-2

A squad of just 12 men, including sub Keeper Harvey Cheadle and assistant manager Adam Moriarty made it to the North Kent coast to face the desperate challenges of relegation haunted Town. Equally desperate was some of the refereeing that saw the opening scores exchanged in soft penalties and, as so often happens with such officials, concentration on minor infringements rather than the serious business of kicking lumps out of opponents, saw the early exit of Jordan Cheadle, penalty converter and scorer of the second equaliser with a stunning 25 yard drive that barely left the ground.

Four players either failed to turn up or called in sick ridiculously late leaving Craig Tanner and Harvey Cheadle to cut lonely figures in the away dug out.

Tom Jelly was penalised for handball after quarter of an hour, despite having his back to the play. Town converted the questionable penalty but the balance was redressed within seven minutes when Nathan Gordon, who appeared to revel in a much more attacking role, was adjudged to have been uprooted enabling Jordan Cheadle to equalise from the spot.

Half Time: Whitstable Town 1-1 Terrors

The early stages of the second period echoed the back pedaling experienced last week at Worthing, with several free kicks being conceded in dangerous positions. Sol Pinnock shot wide and Harry Knock had a shot deflected wide to earn a corner before home danger man Miller, having just been denied by Smith, was allowed a free header to restore the Whitstable lead.

However, the brave eleven were not to be denied and continued to battle, even appearing to relish the challenge, none more that Adam Moriarty who did a fine job in the engine room. The reward came eight minutes from the end with the Cheadle special. But Jordan, along with Towns Smith failed to complete the 90 minutes, both harshly dismissed for second card offences.

Team: Smith, Jelley, Rose,, Alimi, Cheadle, Hartburn, Palmer, Knock, Pinnock, Moriarty, Gordon. Not used: H Cheadle

2-1

Tooting took the points against ten men Redhill as  we  completed a league double over them in the  process. The league meetings between the clubs this  season were the first since the 1955-56 campaign when we used to meet regularly in the Athenian League.  Tooting had the first chance in the 19th minute when Maz Ahmed had a shot saved by the visitors keeper Andy Greaves. On the half hour Joe Bingham replied for Redhill having a shot cleared of the line. In the 34th minute the Terrors took the lead when Maz Ahmed crossed for Craig Watkins to thump home.

Just after the break Nathan Gordon fired just wide and on the hour Harry Knock shot across the face of goal. In the 64th minute Redhill were reduced to ten men when Craig Watkins through on goal was bundled over by last man Jack Hope who was shown a red card. Five minutes later we doubled our lead when Craig Watkins was brought down in the box Jordan Cheadle converting the spot kick. In the 90th minute Redhill were awarded a penalty which Richmond Kissi netted although keeper Harvey Cheadle got close to saving. It was good to see Harvey get a run out between the sticks and he gave a competent display.

TOOTING & MITCHAM UNITED : Harvey Cheadle, Tom Jelley, Nathan Gordon, Bashiru Alimi, Jordan Cheadle, Colin Hartburn, Maz Ahmed(Malachi Robinson), Harry Knock, Craig Watkins, Adam Moriarty(Alex Rose), Juan Onieva. Other subs Max Noble, Sol Pinnock & Paul Smith.

Ryman South

4-1

An extremely disappointing second half performance, led to one of our heaviest defeats of the season. If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it.

Chipstead started the first half brightly, and a good save from Paul Smith from Daniel Moody, kept the scores level. Our first shot at goal came after 15 minutes when Harry Knock shot over the bar, following a good passing movement.

Tooting then started to get on top and had a few chances to take the lead. Elliot Simpson had a great run and was fouled just outside the area. From the free kick Sean Preddie’s desperate header cleared the danger. Jordan Cheadle then shook off his marker from a corner, but his powerful header went over the bar.

Towards the end of the first half our territorial supremacy began to tell. In the 35th minute Elliot Simpson shot over the bar following a corner and TJ Nkoma cut in from the wing, and produced a fierce shot well saved my Milan Stojsavljevic in the Chipstead goal.  Tooting took a deserved lead in the 40th minute, when TJ beat three men in the penalty area before slipping the ball into the corner of the net. Two minutes later Julian Owusu dispossessed Jordan Cheadle to break clear but shot well over the bar. The first half ended with Harry Knock producing another fine save from the Chipstead keeper.

Half Time: Chipstead 0 – Tooting 1

Chipstead were extremely fired up after the interval but the first chance of the first half fell to the Terrors when TJ Nkoma’s run was thwarted by Stojsavlijevic. A much more physical approach was adopted by the home side, and this was evident when Stefan Joseph fouled Tom Jelley on the touchline, an offence not seen by the officials. Chipstead retained possession and a long through ball found Joseph in a one on one with Paul Smith, who was alleged to have fouled the Chipstead striker. The penalty was converted by Daniel Moody to bring the scores level.

The next 20 minutes were dominated by Chipstead and Tooting seemed to have no answer to the twin strike force of Stefan Joseph and Julian Owusu. Their powerful runs aided by good wing play from Daniel Moody, created havoc in the Terror’s defence, and further goals resulted from Joseph (2) and Owusu.

It was clear that we had totally lost the midfield, and if we had been more combative in this area the result might have been different. The absence of Francis Quarm was noticeable as Ryman League South is a very physical league and we will certainly have to toughen up if we wish to return to the Premier Division.

Full Time: Chipstead 4 – Tooting 1.

T&M: Paul Smith, Tom Jelley, Nathan Gordon, Bashiru Alimi, Jordan Cheadle, Colin Hartburn, Malachi Robinson, Harry Knock, Craig Watkins, Elliot Simpson (Sol Pinnock),TJ Nkoma.

Ryman South

4-2

Tooting ended the season in style winning this six goal thriller by four goals to two at a breezy KNK Stadium. Tooting came into the game missing several key players for various reasons as was the case of the visitors who were without their leading scorer. Town with a strong wind behind them in the first half had the first real chance in the 22nd minute when Paul Smith made a excellent point blank save to keep out a Jamie Maxted header and eleven minutes later they had a gilt edged chance but Renford Tenyue put his effort wide. Kieran Oliver then went on a mazy run and saw his shot go just wide. Sol Pinnock then produced a good run and fired just over for the Terrors and in the 39th minute we took the lead following a fine free flowing move which saw Craig Watkins play in Juan Onieva who scored with aplomb.

Half time   Tooting & Mitcham United   1       Faversham Town   0

Six minutes after the break we went two up when Tinashe Nkoma netted after a fine solo effort and then Juan Onieva who has proved to be a very good signing fired in a 25 yard screamer giving the keeper no chance. Our ever reliable striker Sol Pinnock then headed in number four after good work by Tinashe Nkoma which sees him joint top scorer with Jordan Cheadle for the season. The visitors then hit back with goals from player coach Danny Hockton who has been a top class striker over the years and Aidan Sherlock and only a brilliant save from Paul Smith stopped Matthew Bourne adding a third pushing his effort on to the bar.  It was a fitting performance from our lads and both teams deserve much credit for giving it a go after a long season.

We finished in a very creditable 11th position. I would like to thank Craig, Adam and the players for their efforts through the season where there has been some excellent football and a period where we let in  only three goals in ten games the best for several years. Also well done to Frank, Charlie and the Reserve players who just missed out on the Suburban League Title. Finally it was great to see our former player Tommy Sampson at the game he is connected with the Kent club and has not been well in recent times.

TOOTING & MITCHAM UNITED : Paul Smith, Tom Jelley, Malachi Robinson, Adam Moriarty, Francis Quarm, Harry Knock, Tinashe Nkoma(Ryan Palmer), Elliott Simpson(Alex Rose), Craig Watkins, Juan Onieva, Sol Pinnock(Mazin Ahmed). Other sub Harvey Cheadle.

Man of the match. Juan Onieva.
